Azania Lutheran church is a striking edifice having a red roofed belfry that overlooks the water. It has a stern Gothic interior and this is a major landmark in the city. The church was built in the year 1898 by German missionaries and was the center of German mission. Now it has been transformed into a cathedral for diocese and is active in terms of choir rehearsals and services. The choirs are beautiful and sometimes they can be heard outside while walking on the street. Services are held in English too but only in early evening. Otherwise, the services are in Kiswahili. It is a Lutheran church that is a very famous tourist attraction of the city. It faces the harbor and is very close to the ocean. It reflects the Bavarian style of time and has bright white walls and canopies over windows.
