Havlock Islands - A piece of untouched beauty amidst civilization.

Reviewed 03 January 2013
I had heard a lot about the cruise to Havlock Islands. So, this time when I went to the Andaman Islands I decided to give it a try. One word of advice – if you have a tendency of feeling sea sick, then this ride is not for you! Armed with Ajwain (a great way to get rid of any uneasiness), a bottle of soda and an unfinished novel, I bought the tickets (for me and my family) and took off. Makruzz, the high speed cruise service, started from Port Blair at around 8:45 AM and took close to 90 minutes to drop as at the Island. For government ferries, I suggest you book in advance as these (being cheaper) get sold out. Thankfully, the seas were peaceful, and so I had a chance to enjoy the spectacular views and take a few shots. The journey to Radhanagar Beach was a bit tiresome though, with roads not quite in a good condition. But once you step foot in the clear blue waters (unbelievably unpolluted and clean!) all the weariness disappears. The changing rooms were almost usable, but all the splashing around will make you forget that part. Perhaps the only downside is the food – except bananas all vegetables and fruits are priced high (being imported). So, for a filling and good (less expensive) meal, it’s the food shacks lining the beach for me! Of course there are quite a few options if you want to go overboard with the food part – but it doesn’t make sense as you’re not here to eat, and you need to set aside money for snorkeling, scuba diving and beach trekking. Havlock definitely refreshed me with its untouched essence, and at the end, you don’t really feel the heat, with the cool sea breeze ready to blow you off your feet!
