Pura Jagat Natha is a state temple which is dedicated to Sanghyang Widi, the supreme god of Balinese culture. Some part of the temple’s significance is its statement of monotheism. The temple shrine known as padmasana, is made of white coral, and consists of an empty throne that is symbolic of heaven on top of the cosmic turtle and two naga which are mythical snakelike creatures that symbolise the foundation of the world. The temple walls are decorated with carvings of scenes from the two Hindu epic Ramayana and Mahabharata. There are two major festivals are held here every month, during the full moon and new moon, and feature wayang kulit (leather shadow puppet) performances.
