Travel Guide of Kyoto

Kyoto is a city in Japan that portrays the old charm of the Japanese culture. It houses quiet temples, colourful shrines, sublime gardens and geisha scurrying to secret liaisons. The city has a good range of restaurants that offers a great chance to relish at amazing Japanese cuisine and not only Japanese one can also savour at French, Italian and Chinese restaurants. The best part is that the Kyoto’s restaurants are in traditional wooden buildings, where one can also admire the private gardens while enjoying their meal. There are more than 1000 Buddhist temples in Kyoto.ee

Culture capital of Japan!

Reviewed 11 June 2013
If Tokyo is about all the jazz of developed world, Kyoto is about the 'real' Japanese tradition. Easiest way to get here is by taking the Shinkanzen bullet train from Tokyo station and you'll be here in flat 3 hours.

I absolutely loved Kyoto- the beautiful shrines, the lovely manicured gardens and so many people in traditional dresses moving around briskly. If you are lucky, you can even spot a Geisha with full white makeup in the Gion District. Gion also has tons of restaurants and small shops selling souvenirs as well as, designer stuff.

Not to miss:
- Golden Pavilion- A beautiful house built by a Shogun a few hundred years back in a middle of a small pond surrounded by majestic hills and beautiful gardens. It is now a temple.
- Gion district- for shopping, Geisha sighting and restaurants.
- Kyoto Imperial Palace
- There are also tons of shrines in Kyoto and depending on your time, you can take your pick. Sanjusangendo, Kiyomizu temple, and Tenryuji temple are especially popular.
