Senso ji temple is a Buddhist temple constructed in the year 645 AD. Sensō-ji is popularly known as the Tokyo's largest and most popular Matsuri. The temple is a devotion to Bodhisattva Kannon. History reveals that the statue of Kannon was found by two fishermen across the river Sumida in 628 and later the purity of the idol was recognized by the chief of their village and was built into a small temple. The main entrance is the thunder gate which is the outer gate of Sensoji temple and is known as the symbol of Asakusa. The main event of the temple is Sanja Mastsuri which is held every year during the month of May. Other festivals are Asakusa Samba carnival and the Hagoita-ichi. Shopping area is at Nakamise which is 200 meters away from the temple. Traditional snacks and folding fans are the main attraction of this place. There are small shops on the lanes of the Thunder gate. The five story pagoda and the main hall are the devotion to Kannon Bosatsu.

Timings: Visiting time is from 06:00 to 17:00 hours. In the month (October-march) it opens from 06:30 hours. Temple ground opens daily.

How to reach: The nearest metro station is Asakusa station. Get the subways Ginza, Asakusa and Tobu railways to reach the station. It takes 6 minutes from Asakusa station to Senso ji Temple.
