Kampung Kuantan is a natural park, which is known for its fireflies. The park is located nearly 10 kilometers from the town of Kuala Selengor which is famous for its fireflies colonies which is one the largest colonies in the world. Visitors can take a ride on a traditional sampan (small boat) in the night which and get mesmerized by the breathtaking spectacle of thousands of fireflies sparkling in the dark. The best part of this phenomenon is when all the fireflies gather in the Berembang (mangrove) trees for feeding and mating. The best time to experience this phenomenon is during weekdays on a no moon day and not on weekends, full moon days or rainy evenings as the views of fireflies is not great during these days. The duration of this boat ride tour is 25- 30 minutes and each boat can load four people at one time. The park houses an information center that also sells souvenirs for this remarkable experience. The visitors are advised to avoid the use of flash cameras to take pictures of the fireflies as it can spoil the amazing sightings.
