Al-Balad is a decrepit looking area which is located in the heart of old Jeddah. This is one of the oldest towns in Jeddah and you can find some interesting historical buildings here. ‘Balad’ in Arabic means town hence the name Al-Balad. These buildings are made out of coral reefs which are from the Red Sea. It might take you to surprise that these buildings are still in use even though if they might be sounding daft.

Al Balad was the heart of Jeddah and also had many traditional souks which are absolutely worth a visit on Friday’s after the prayers. Some of the coral buildings are into dangerous state and disrepair as a fact of increasing wealth from the oil. You can roam around and wander or have a sip of shai from the local shops. There are no maps in Jeddah for tourist information hence the perfect way to describe its location is that it is located in the heart of Jeddah.
