The City of Old Diriyah lies in the desert which is about 20 kilometre to the north-west of Riyadh city centre. The ruins are historically significant, standing imposing and silent in the desert making an excursion. The city was an important site of Islamic reform movement in the 17th century, stronghold of the powerful Saud family. During the movement two influential imams called for the people to return to abandon heresy, superstition, true faith and polytheism.

The city was one of the biggest cities in the Arab peninsula, but was destroyed by the Turks and overtaken by Riyadh in the 19th century. The ruins of the mud-brick structures are still to be explored. You can enjoy the beautiful view of Wadi Hanifa down, which have hundreds of palm trees, and the Annafel Park in a distance from the historical Diriyah. The park has amazing three waterfalls, which is on the walking track close to the Tuwaiq Kindergarten and is a perfect place for a picnic. You can enjoy the cool breeze and the stunning view of the sunset from here are amazing. This is a must visit place if you are in Riyadh.
