Najd Village is a must visit restaurant if you want to taste some authentic food and experience what ancient Saudi Arabia was like. The Najd is a traditional village restaurant, which is located at the Abu Bakr Road, near the Prince Sultan University. This is a restaurant built in the traditional Najd style mud house, Najd architecture and decoration. The staff is also dressed up in the traditional attire to welcome the guests. Once you enter the building you can find traditional Saudi architecture all over the place, the stone walls give the feel like a fortress, the rich painted doors, lush green grass, and gold antiques are a pleasure to watch.

The restaurant is divided into two sections, one for the family and other for the singles. The families are given separate private rooms with a wrap-around seating on the floor. You can also dine in the open are if you wish to. In the center of the courtyard is a watermill which provides natural light during the daytime and the sparkling of the stars in the night time. The majlis are fully air conditioned with fireplaces, the tents have a romantic atmosphere with lanterns hanging all over the ceiling. There are no tables and chairs, cushions are kept for floor seating and the food is served in the traditional plates. First you will be served with the traditional tea and Saudi dates.

The menu includes salads, chicken, soup, vegetables, freshly baked breads, deserts, lamb, Arabic coffee, tea and dates and you can also try a camel dish if never tasted before. You can taste the Najd region speciality the baby camel called Hashi, some kasba which includes meat with rice. There are 14 different types of main course available along with coffee, bachoor and dates. Some of the popular dishes are Jareesh which is barley grain with some yoghurt and caramelized onions, Haneeni which is a wheat dough added with butter, milk and dates. Marasiya is another dish which is Saudi pancakes, Mataziz which is wheat dough pieces which are cooked with meat and vegetables. The chicken dishes are quite popular as they are tender and succulent. The food is really tasty and the prices are also quite affordable and it is a highly recommended place to everyone. You can experience the unique Saudi heritage by eating the food with your hand in the Saudi way. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture this unique experience.
