The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as the Kallimármaro, is a multi-purpose stadium used for several events and athletics in Athens. The Stadium hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The Panathenaic Stadium is a classical cultural and touristic landmark of Greece. It is also the place from which the Olympic Flame is delivered to all the Olympic Games, Winter, Summer and Youth. It symbolizes the ancient tradition of Athenian athletic competition and its modern-day rebirth as the Olympic Games. The “stadium of all the Athenians” is also known as Kallimarmaro, meaning “made of fine marble.”
