The Parthenon is a former temple on the Athenian Acropolis dedicated to the goddess Athena, whom the people of Athens considered their patron. It is an impressive symbol of Classical Greece, and it is a cultural landmark like no other. Parthenon has served different functions throughout its existence as once it was treasury, then a Christian church and now a must see sight in the whole of Greece. It is the most significant surviving building of Greece, generally considered the zenith of the Doric order. Its decorative sculptures are considered some of the marvels of Greek art. The Parthenon is regarded as an enduring symbol of Ancient Greece, Athenian democracy and western civilization, and one of the world's greatest cultural monuments.
