Plaka is the most loved neighbourhood in Athens located in the shadow of the Acropolis. It’s like a village within a city with no automobile traffic. Previously it was the nightclub district, but most of these closed down when the government outlawed the amplified music in the neighbourhood in the seventies in an effort to get rid of undesirable crowd. Presently it houses restaurants, Jewellery stores tourist shops, and cafes. Though it is quite commercialized but it is still a neighbourhood and arguably the nicest street to explore in central Athens. Many of the restaurants are a typical touristy but still the food served is amazing. One can shop for souvenirs like antiques, or actual hand painted icons, wood carvings and paintings.
