A day trip to Cliffs Moher

The Cliffs of Moher are located in the County Clare at Ireland and are one of the most popular tourist visiting attraction. They stretch along the Atlantic coast of the County Clare almost 8 kilometre that is 5 miles along the west of Ireland, standing 214metre or 702 feet tall at the highest point. Standing on the top of the Cliffs of Moher on a clear day you can see the Galway Bay and the Aran Islands, along with the Twelve Pins and mountains in Connemara, namely Muam turk. The Dingle Peninsula and Blasket Islands in Kerry are to the south. The best viewing point which is near the highest point is the O’Brien’s Tower.

This is the most visited natural attraction annually almost over one million visitors come and enjoy this wonderful place which captures their hearts. The Wild Atlantic Way has a Signature Discovery Point in its heart. The highest point is located at the Knockardakin which is to the north of O’Brien’s Tower where you can have one in a million experience. The Hags head a natural rocky promontory which resembles a seated women when viewed from the north is located at the southern end of the Cliffs of Moher. The word Mothar means “ruined fort” in the ancient Gaelic language. Moher tower stands where the fort stood in the 1st century BC.

Even though there is no trace remaining of the ruined fort which was built two thousand years ago it has given the name to the cliffs, therefore the Cliffs of Moher means the cliffs of the ruined fort. It is an environmental friendly site which has a Visitor Experience centre which is almost midway along these sensational cliffs. The cliff side is protected from all sides and has steps and pathways along the way.
