The Aillwee cave is located three miles south of the Ballyvaughan in Burren, Co. Clare. During the Prehistoric Ice Age about 15,000 years ago the water from the ice started to melt carving its way into a spectacular tunnel into the limestone which is below the Burren. These are one of the most beautiful caves in the world and you can visit it when you are at Burren. Aillwee in Irish means “yellow cliff”, which is named after the shades of yellow and gold which are seen in the cave.

Do not forget to bring your camera along with you to capture the mesmerizing effect of lights and shadows, while exploring the historic site and mountains. They offer you a guided tour which takes about 45 minutes to experience utter beauty of nature. Do not forget to carry your sweaters and jackets while coming to the caves, as you might be chilled by the 50 degree Fahrenheit temperature.
