Feel the grandeur of the great amphitheater of the Rome at Colosseum

Colosseum is also known as Flavian Amphitheatre. It is built by Vespasian and Titus (son of Vespasian) between 70 and 80 AD. The term ‘Colosseum’ was derived from the Latin word ‘Colosseus, which means colossal.It was used to see the gladiator fights. It was an elliptical amphitheatre of ancient Rome.It covers 6 acres. It was a large stadium built for sports and entertainment. It is considered as an ancient monument of Rome. Colosseum can hold 50,000 to 80,000 spectators and it was used for battle place both for animals and human being especially prisoners. Gladiators would fight up to their death.

Colosseum took less than ten years to build. Now it was partially ruined due to earth quakes. Colosseum was considered as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1980. It was also considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. Today thousands of tourists come to see the Roman Colosseum to admire the beauty and history of this marvelous place.

In Latin ‘Gladiator’ means swordsman. Gladiator is a trained man who fights with other men or wild animals using weapons in ancient Roman arena.

How to Reach:
By Train: The nearest metro station is Colosseo (blue line). It is just a minute walk from Colosseo.

By Bus: Colosseum is located at the centre of the Rome. Take Bus numbers 60, 75, 85, 87, 117, 175, 810 and 850 to Colosseum.

Tickets and Timings : Ticket costs 12 Euro. The opening hours are from 9 am to 5 pm excluding Sundays.
