St. Peter’s Basilica is the world largest church, known as the centre of Christianity. Built over more than hundred years and built on the slope of the Vatican hill. The construction was begun in 1506. The church was designed primarily by Donato Bramante, Michelanglo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Interior of the church encompasses the angelic faces of 40 types of cherubs created in stone, mosaic and metal with beautiful marbles floors. The construction took about 120 years and was completed in 18th Nov, 1626. There are four main architects that contributed to St. Pieter’s Basilica. Each architect provides great work to the church of their own way. Michelangelo provided a great contribution for this church, but the work remained unfinished because of his death and Giacomo Della Porta completed the remaining part of the work. This dome holds a unique position in the Christian world. The Dome has a diameter of 42. 34 and is covered by the five-sided pillars. At the foot of the Dome is the roof terrace from where you can view the entire premise of the dome. The popular monument of this place is the statue of Mary holding the dead body of her son.
