La Vega Central is the main market of Santiago and it’s bustling, noisy as well as crowded, especially in the mornings or on the weekend. It is located between Metros Patronato and Puente Cal y Canto and the entrance to La Vega Chica is on the street Artesanos. There is a wide variety of products which are sold in its surrounds, mostly fresh fruit and vegetables from the Chilean Central Valley. The market is also home to over 500 dairy, meat, goods and merchandise stores, and offers a variety of Chilean cuisine.

The vendors may aggressively compete for your business or shoo you away if you don’t want to buy quickly and in bulk (they sell by the kilo here). That said, it may be both an exciting but intimidating experience for a foreigner. The guests should come prepared for a true mercado (market) experience that will be a memorable part of your stay in Santiago.

Opening hours:
Monday to Saturday: 06:00 to 18:00 hours
Sunday: 06:00 to 15:00 hours

Address: Antonia López de Bello, Región Metropolitana, Chile

How to reach: The nearest metro station is Patronato serving on the line 2 of Santiago metro service which is just a five minutes’ walk away from the market."
