Maquipucuna, located in the Pichincha Province, is the closest pristine rainforest to Quito, Ecuador's capital. The reserve consists of prime and secondary montane rain forest and cloud forest. The reserve comprises four different environment zones and is home to a massive variety of flora and fauna. Situated within the Chocó-Andean Corridor, it is in an area known by scientists as one of the world's top five biodiversity hotspots.

Only 45 minutes away from Quito, the first halt at the Maquipucuna Reserve greets with a crazy plethora of birds and orchids. Spectacular and diverse bird species such as Toucan Barbet, Cock -of-the Rock, Plate-billed mountain toucan, Lanceolated Monklet, Esmeraldas antbird, Read headed barbet, Golden headed quetzal can be found here.
