Witness the colonial architecture of Goyeneche Palace

Built in the 17th century, Goyeneche palace or Casa Goyeneche is a manorial house of the Arequipa city. It is located in the La Merced Street and it one of the most tourist attracted places. The colonial architecture is what attracts the tourist the most. It is constructed in baroque style and has a balcony, ample interior courtyard patios, doors, windows and arched ceilings. The wrought iron railings in the interior are a symbol of strength and strong will of the people of Arequipa. The building was acquired by the Goyeneche family from Spain.

The façade displays the shield of bishop of Arequipa, Jose Sebastian de Goyeneche. The mansion or palace has two floors with a beautiful façade which have square columns of false doric, huge balconies with iron railings and flower ornaments. It has elegant vaulted rooms with door and windows in colonial style, which might surprise you. The stairway is made out of white sillar in a snail shell shape which leads to projecting balconies. There is a fountain made in the center of the court yard patio out of some black stones. The house has been reconstructed several times as it has faced lot of natural calamities.
