Take a walk at the Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de Armas also called as Plaza Mayor is the core of the city and the birthplace of Lima. It is situated in the Historic Centre of Lima and is surrounded by The Cathedral of Lima, the Municipal palace, the Government palace, Archbishop’s palace and the Palace of the Union. In the 16th century Plaza de Armas was the heart of the city which was established by Francisco Pizarro. The Plaza has an area of 140 square metre with a bronze fountain at its center. The Palacio de Gobierno, a grandiose baroque styled building is the residence of the Peru president is located to the north east of the plaza. To the east is the Palacio Arzobispal also called as Archbishop’s palace shows some exquisite Moorish style balconies in the city. To the front side of the plaza is the presidential guard, where the guard changing takes place every day at noon. The plaza has occasional exhibitions for the public to see, where advance booking of the tickets is required.
